Curriculum Religious Education
Religious Education is a Core subject and as a result of this ten percent of curriculum time is allocated to the teaching of RE. The school uses the ‘Come and See’ scheme as recommended by the diocese. This programme is designed to be accessible and inclusive for all pupils whatever their faith background. It is a one year cycle and each year pupils study nine topics based on the Church, the Sacraments and Christian Living. The study of scripture is integral to the programme and is covered throughout. In addition pupils spend 2-4 weeks a year studying two other world religions.
Religious Education is academically rigorous and pupils are encouraged to reflect carefully on faith matters in the light of the scripture, tradition, doctrine prayers and rites of the Church which they have studied. Pupils’ attainment in RE is assessed termly.
The subject is well resourced in school and the curriculum is enriched through the planned provision of visiting speakers and other groups within the parish. The link governor for RE is Mrs Maria Foxton.
